There are four stages in the life cycle of mosquito and those are the egg, larva, pupa and adult mosquito. Though they are having minor differences in the pattern of life cycle of different kinds of mosquito but more or less they are same. During the flight in the air, the male and female mosquitoes come to the contract and subsequently the internal fertilization occurs in the body of. Then in the shallow stagnant water the female mosquito lays eggs and the cycle starts. Now we shall go for the short description about different stages of life cycle of mosquito.
Egg:
About 200 to 400 fertilized eggs lay by the female mosquito in the stagnant or sluggish water. The eggs of Annapolis type of mosquito are floating separately in the water, on the other hand the eggs of Culex type of mosquito remained together and floats on the water as like a single unit. Each egg of Annapolis mosquito is provided with two central extensions known as floats which are attached laterally. This is just like a boat the eggs floating in water with the help of the floats. But in the eggs of Culex the float is not present. After 2 to 3 days the larva hatches from the eggs and the first stage of life cycle of mosquito is completed.
Larva:
It may be seen that the elongated larva move very rapidly on the water. They feed on algae and some microorganisms. They are may found three division in the body of larva, those are the head, thorax and abdomen. The head of larva consist of two compound eyes, they also have two numbers of antennae and a mouth aperture. The mouth parts are guarding the mouth aperture. The thorax is border than the head. There are clusters of hairs on the thorax. The abdomen is composed by nine segments. There are also clusters of hairs on the lateral sides of the abdomen. An elongated respiratory siphon there is on the terminal end of the abdomen. The larva of Anopheles mosquito projects the siphon above the surface layer of water but the body of its body remains at the parallel level of water. But in comparative study of life cycle of mosquito we may find that in case of Culex mosquito, though the siphon remains above the water but the head of the larvae is suspended downward. The larvae moult four times and after each moulting, the reoccurs some changes in the body. The period of larva in life cycle of mosquito continues for seven days. After seven days of larval period each of the larva transformed to a pupa.
Pupa:
Like other insects the pupal stage of mosquito is not stationary. The pupa has not any mouth aperture and they cannot feed anything, but only moves in the water. The pupa are looking like a coma (,) sign. The region of head is comparatively large rabid the dorsal siphon remains above the surface of water for respiration. The stage of pupa continues for two days. There is a metamorphosis in the pupa a d the adult mosquito is formed. By breaking the pipal she'll the adult mosquito comes out.
Adult Mosquito:
It is the final stage of life cycle of mosquito. After coming out of the shell the adult mosquito remains for sometime over the shell. They stay their till the two wings of the mosquito are being dried up and become heard. Then the mosquito flies in the air and remain alive near about a month,
In this way the life cycle of mosquito completes and the process repeaters again and again.
